Harry Boland (Hall of Fame)
1948 Olympian and President of the (ABAI) Amateur Basketball Association of Ireland 1965-1968
Originally a hurler, Harry Boland took up the sport of basketball while a student at University College, Dublin. He was introduced to the sport by the legendary Fr Joe Horan who later recruited Harry to help him organize a team to play in the 1948 Olympics. He was one of only two members of the Irish basketball team to be selected from outside the military. Boland was one of Ireland's top players in the 1940s and 50s and, after his playing days were over, served as President of Basketball Ireland.
