Dan Trant

Trant first appeared in Ireland to compete in the 1983 Roy Curtis International Tournament as the captain of the Clark University team from Worcester Massachusetts. After impressing the Dublin crowd  and completing his senior year at Clark, Trant ( an NCAA Division 3 All American and a 1984 late round draft choice of the Boston Celtics) was recruited by Team Yoplait (Marian B.C. Dublin) for the 1984 - 85  National League season. He later applied  for dual citizenship and his outstanding play earned him a spot on the Irish National Team. Trant also played for Team Smithwick in Belfast, Team Harp in Cork and the Claremont Admirals in Ennistymon before returning to the States to get married.  Over the years he became a successful stockbroker but tragically lost his life in the NY Twin Tower disaster on  September 11, 2001.  The following is a small remembrance of Dan's accomplishments and contributions to Irish basketball.
