(Dublin) Saint Vincents

Established  1962.  Basketball was introduced to Glasnevin when Bro. O’Farrell erected a set of baskets in the school yard of  the St. Vincent’s School C.B.S. in 1958 with the help of  coach Brendan Buckley from Tralee. Bill Casey stepped in as a player / coach in 1961 and the club was registered with ABBA in September of 1962. The club quickly became a dominant force in the Dublin and national basketball scene(s) with the development of players such as Dave Fitzsimons, John Furlong and Ollie Hearns. Their success on a national level in the late 60's and early 70's enabled the club to host two prominent tournaments, the Glen Abbey and the St Vincents (Players) Invitational Tournament(s).
